Defragmentation
The best way to ensure maximum performance from your drive is to regularly
(weekly or biweekly) defragment your hard disk drive. Frequent use of a hard drive can cause files to become fragmented
(broken up), which can slow access and retrieval of data on the drive, as well as increase the likelihood of lost data.
As new applications are subsequently started, new Prefetch data is created, which will mean reduced performance. www.techrepublic.com
A) Deleting the unwanted & unused files in the Prefetch folder. My Computer > C:\ > WINDOWS > Prefetch > "Cntrl A" selects all > Delete
B) Deframent the files on your hard disk to make them contiguous. Start Menu > Run... > DFRG.MSC > Select Drive > Defragment (see picture)
*we suggest deleting Prefetch folder ever few months but run deframent at least monthly.
